various bits of moshi news.
28/02/05
gosh. look at the how long its been !
anyways .. i have been supplied with a bumper pack of moshi moshi goodies .. and people .. it's all excellent stuff. there is the fine new single from new rhodes proving that you cant beat a slice of classic indie pop once in a while. but in coming months there is to be new sounds from 'the rakes', 'best fwend', and the obtusely monikered 'lo-fi-fnk' - good luck asking for that one.
14/9/03
lots and lots of moshi moshi news.
new rhodes are playing some gigs. details.
matt harding releases an ep (11/10) featuring tracks from lp and new stuff
track listing : leave it up to you, in her voice, patriot square, red, drawing lines, sharp keys
hot chip release a new single - playboy (27/9). with a whole host of b-sides including a four tet remix of 'the ass attack'
oh, and the return of the famous moshi moshi pub/pop quiz .. any excuse to have a drink and laugh along with pete ingo i believe.
have fun.

3. pete ingo gigs for all its worth. 29/4 @ infinity club in soho with science, and hit the stage at glasto once again (i hope he's been invited !), along with band chums from minuteman - friday, new bands tent.
5/01/04
new year - new gear. anyone who browsed a recent nme would have the knowledge of a new moshi moshi release. hot chip's new single. well hurrah for the increased profile and the postive vibes flowing from the nme to moshi moshi land. bad news is you'll have to wait till the end of feburary till you can hear this. as soon as i have more details i will of course pass them on .. till then spin the 5 years compilation to appease the urges ..
14/10
rich submits a review for andrew wk's new lp 'the wolf'. enjoy it.
09/10/03
review and details for the 5 year celebration compilation - we got monkeys
30/09/03
well its like buses. nothing for ages then a whole fleet arrive at once.
all sorts going on.
the label is celebrating 5 years with a new compilation 'we got monkeys' (moshicd5) released at the end of october, featuring new tracks from ingo star cruiser, matt harding, junkboy, unsound, hot chip amongst others ..
as well as the compilation there will be a party, ahem, sorry a gig. 30/10/03 featuring ingo star cruiser, hot chip. somewhere in hoxton. i wont be there so dont bug me for more details as i'll only get miffed. check moshi website and tell'em i sent you.
matt harding new album. as reviewed ages ago. this will finally see light of day 20/10/03. you have been suitably informed on its excellence.
as will a rather splendid 7" from ingo star cruiser currently due feb 2004, with tracks 'hands up', 'whos happy at the airport', and the excellent 'do it like dad'
and now for the big one.
pete ingo dedicated several minutes of his precious time and responded to some questions set by ireallylovemusic. go here .. and read all about his world at the moment.
24/08/03
all quiet in moshi moshi land, suspect its a calm before a storm. a few updates/facts.
1. matt hardings second album is released on 29/9, get it. its wonderful.
2. label honcho, stephen bass recently celebrated his birthday. it happens.
3. pete ingo is currently recording his second album. i'm keen.
4. pete also played glasto. someone wrote some nice words at playlouder.
29/5/03
well the gig in bristol has been and gone.
the crowds didn't flow, but the vibes did. an excellent night. the new ingo songs are fantastic. worthy of the full phil spector wall of sound approach (but without the gangsta extras!), and matt performed his world debut electric guitar set ... and junkboy ? well they were intense. i was spellbound. literally.
subsequently i now have a nice little exclusive.
matt harding's second album is reviewed here.
it wont be out for a while, but relax in the knowledge that its excellent.
extra news : pete ingo is moonlighting once more as i type. he is helping out moshi family member - pete gofton aka j xaverre is performing live and pete is helping out to flesh out the dream, jx's new single (review to appear as soon as its typed !) is quality aswell.
ever get the feeling there is a whole sub culture of decent music that nme readers have no idea about ?
30/4/03
midweek special
i have heard a viscious rumour that evelsong is unbearably close to smashing the top 40. grief. completely worthy if you ask me - find the rather impressive 10" edition and feel like you used to in 84 - smell/feel the touch of vinyl, you know you want more. but you wont succumb will you. the bristol mashup has been confirmed. may 15th at the louisiana. pete ingo/junkboy/matt harding all doing their bit to spread some love. they dont require much from you - the audience, justa few quid and the moshi moshi vibe will be all yours. a bargain.
24/4/03
family fun
moshi moshi v.2003 is beginning to warm up.
pete ingo appears on the glorious king of woolworths album and soon to be released single 'evelsong'. tis ace. but then if you are reading this you would know that already. the single is supposed to include extra moshi moshi action - like a matt harding remix. we shall see. matts new album is almost ready and is pleasing all those who have heard it.
as soon as i have details i will of course pass this on.
hero on a mission, pete ingo also has time for himself. amazingly. ingo star cruiser are finalising a track 'do you control the waves'. the track was played on bbc6 recently by lauren lavern. it was damn a damn fine poptatsic rocker. with no more hints of the lo-fi ball and chain. another track 'timing disaster' is also scheduled. this may end up as a playlouder thingymajig .. but i guess you should check with the fine people @ playlouder - also check their take on the king of woolworths recent gig @ the ica in london.
for those that feel like having a look round nyc thru the eyes of this happy band of music people then they have posted some pics of their recent exploits.
for some of us we have the good fortune to live near the next moshi singalongaparty. the gang are getting of the city and heading for bristol in may. at the louisiana. thats tbc. but should be rather fun. for me.
thats all for now folks.
07/02/03
new year new gear
several snippets of info.
moshi moshi are going to hit nyc and do some gigs, see label website for more details
prior to this jolly the gang are making sure that pete ingo and matt h can remember their songs and so are making the guys perform in public at some nice drinking place in london on feb 18.
please be nice as pete is nervous.
there is also a rumour that today (7th feb) ingo star cruiser have ventured into a recording studio for the first time in quite a while. whoever said it was to make the tea is being very rude. i cant wait to hear the results.
j xaverre has jumped off the moshi moshi ship and signed to memphis industries. more details as and when. i understand a compilation with 2 j-x tracks is on its way.
junkboy are to release a remix album in spring. get the bassbins ready.
st valentines day update : matt hardings new album is being remastered as i type and looks to be called "Commitment"
there are photos of the moshi clan online. now.
11/12/02
1. junkboy is getting the remix treatment from crack village - be scared, very.
2. pete from ingo star cruiser could be doing a tex la homa remix for a remix lp which is supposed to be spring 2003.
3. pete is also geting into shape for some action next year.
to quote pete
"Re: this is why .. by PINGO on 5-Dec-02
I AM ON GUITAR, keboard vocal duties..hopefully we have the
rhythm section from ian browns band and the king with his friend
doing all the tech stuff and hopefully we'll be joined by dot
allison, emma from the delgados, crack village(king??? eh they
are something to behold) at the London show at the ICA on the 22
March for the album launch..i think "
4. this is petes review of the recent moshi moshi night @ ica as described below - enjoy :
FOR A FILM by PETE INGO on 4-Nov-02 | |
A week after the ICA Michael
and me are sitting on a rooftop in Kentish Town, a
Halloween party is rumbling on beneath, for a brief second
we muse on the idea of setting up a moshi moshi
destruction company to take out the council flats that
are obsuring our view of the city. These flights of fancy
often take hold. After the gig last week we thought it in
our best interest to become professional party organisers
or franchising off the pop quiz as a nationwide
syndicate. Anyway it was on this roof that Michael got to
the crux of what moshi moshi is about, and fuck me if I
didn't realise it before, but we're one big fuckoff
family. It all made perfect sense. As if to illustrate
downstairs Mina, the original moshi babe is making
aquaintance with Beepe an Italian Journalist who we've
never met before but was still one of us..that's the
beauty anyone can join in.....one big family. I don't
know where or why it started probably some drunked pot
filled night in or around N4, the vanity maybe of Adrian,
Stephen and Michael? For those moments when being
introduced to beautiful women at parties and you can drop
the killer answer to the most common of ice breakers:
"so what is it you do............?'Why my dear we
own our own record company." yeah that sounds
good....I'll always say I make music before I tell them I
sell theatre tickets, Thankfully though somewhere in the
genesis of the label was a musical youth, Stephens was
most probably thumping to some German Techno Franklin
fusion, Michael was left shaken by the Pixies doing Glen
Cambell and God only know what the hell Adrian was
frugging to.and so, anyways the world was born somewhere,
somewhen in 1998. Releases came and went, Sukpatch, Zan
Lyons and Blue Foundation passed by the record buying
public like strangers in the night and the world paid no
mind but the NME did kindly put Zan on a cover mounted
CD, when round at Adrians the other day the said NME was
growing old and yellow with the CD still stuck beneath a
gurning Tim Burgess. Such detail sucks ass, let me get to
the point however we got to where we are today aint it
great. Junkboy looking impossibly younger and more good
looking with the turning of time and if i'm not mistaken
i was seeing some classic rock poses during there set
last week, and maybe more important than their cheek
bones was the fact that they've made a fucking great
record this year, they are the purest of love we have the
love of the young. Matt Harding will always be just that,
I will love Matt forever for phoning up the ICA five
minutes before his Dj set was about to drop and telling
them he was drunk and at least six miles away from the
decks, thats Matt a gentle genius who one day will sneak
his genius into every stereo in the world, he is my
neighbour. J xaverre entered the building ever late yet
ready to RUMBLE OUR BOTTOMS which he did and does more
and more sweetly with everyviewing, not only this but he
comes with Grassy who is surly a guru and Lea who will
forever never be Leah ever ever again. It's nothing to do
with the benjamins, it's not got much to do with sex,
it's got everything to do with the Ace of Spades, Lauren
in the air, pole dancing, forward rolling, drinking,
fighting, moaning , laughing,stressing,stroking keeping
your own side of the bargain, loving what you do, who you
do it with, how your dancing to it and most of all not
giving a fuck about what they think about it..we're on
the side of good, you can't go wrong, you're right. Thats
the point, we're family now,untouchable, unleavable..you
can fuck up, ship out dissappear for days, weeks, years
but you will always be family you will always be loved.
More than a woman more than a record label. Big up
yourselves, we just won it all back! With love pete ingo xxxx ps. On reflection it may have something to do with sex. |
moshi moshi
are holding a special party/gig at the london ica
"i'm feeling
inspired. for the first time in a long while. and i thought it
only right i should share my new-found joy with the moshi family.
you see
we're having the record label equivalent of a barmitsvah. a
coming of age
gig at the ica on 25th october. and everyone's invited. playing
live will be
junkboy (moshi's very own blazin' squad, according to j xaverre).
j xaverre
and his band. and friend of moshi moshi (but actually signed to
deadly
rivals melodic records) minotaur shock, who will be showcasing a
vocalist so
new even he hasn't met her before. punk eh? djing there will be
(deep
breath) pedro (another melodic man), crack village, lauren
laverne, john
kennedy, pete fowler and our very own teen idol matt harding (aka
billy
fury). we've even had a projector slide made up with our logo,
but i'm not
sure if it will work yet 'cos i when i tried it on my bedroom
ceiling with a
torch i couldn't see a thing. so probably not a good idea to come
just for
that. we're going to give away some hastily made cd's featuring
gems from
the moshi catalogue to the first/only 100 people through the
door. and i'm
toying with the idea of introducing some element of the moshi pop
quiz into
the night. but this might just consist of pete ingo going up to
people and
asking them random trivia questions. then awarding winners with a
big hug.
all the usual fighters, drinkers, groovers and lovers from n4
will be there.
so come down and admire our acne and funny up-and-down
voices."
