napoleon iiird - ep
having had the chance to hear nap's original demo a while ago, i was chuffed to see that the fine leeds label 'dance to the radio' decided to get the noise out on a proper release. albeit a very limited release. 4 tracks of lo-fi production mixed with obvious high ambition. as napoleon chucks in so many different musical making noises into the phil spector on budget mix that it can become somewhat messy and disorganised, but somehow despite the sonic mess there is obviously a real singular talent being developed here. ok, the songs will not get exposed to the radio1 masses as they aren't easy, straight to the chorus styled songs (with the exception of ep opener 'anti-patria'), but anyone who plumps up their hard earned are in for a long lasting love affair with these rather fascinating experiments of horns/guitars/scruffy drums and layered vocals. after all, in 2005 - who needs 30-plus band members and white robes to make glorious sunshine loving hands in the air anthems ? a one man dictator setup going under the pseudo napoleon iiird certainly doesn't.
excellently ramshackle and fun.
