hexstatic - pick-n-mix

i love it when a record label seems to be up to speed with a development such as the whole mixtape/mashup/bootleg groove.

in case you hadn't noticed, all of the highly recommended antidote mixtapes are released on sanctuary records, thus taking away all the licensing issues if the track selection stays within the record labels archive (which they did for those excellent trojan/sugarhill mixes), so i suspect that they have seen the success of these mixes and then approached the well known cut up artists, hexstatic crew, who just happened to have made one of the best commercially available solid steel mixes for ninjatune, and said - "there's the archive, get busy!"

lucky us.

subsequently, this 20 track monster is a wild ride that drops in several well known classics from every corner of the history of music. to start off the party are a few cheezy loungecore beasts, (tony hatch ! hot butter - twice !), but it's not too long before the taste factor is kicked into touch, as a splattering of old school sugarhill monsters get the funk in flow and the real show starts. highlights are too many to go into detail, but, grandmaster flash and his classic white lines being dropped in with a few subtle placements of dillingers 'cocaine' induces smiles , as do the masses and masses of scratched up excess and fun is the central focus of this excellent mix. after all, there cant be that many mixes out there that feature 70's comedian (ahem), dick emery now can there ?

one to file alongside the superb, but long forgotten, fsuk3 mix by bentley rhythm ace.

tis indeed that good.
