champion boxer/the interiors/chuck

a triple bill !

i think this is a first for the wrath supersevens (i could be totally wrong on this of course). as often is the case with the supersevens, these bands are unknown to me and prove just how fucking great the uk is at the moment for underground indie rock that has yet to reach the pages of high profile media outlets that exist far away from this hidden corner of the web.

opener comes from the sheffield collective, champion kickboxer, where the mood is more restrained than usual for a wrath release, 'thinking' starts off with some stripped down instrumentation making the heckles rise - urgh - singer/songwriter rubbish ? ah ha .. hang on in there - cos as per usual with wrath, the norm is never adhered to, as after a few moments the build of intensity, melodrama and excellent tension is almost too good to bear. a very impressive track. then things gets back to normal (ha !) with the fast-n-furious guitars strummed excess of 'she's in japan' by the interiors who could easily drop this track into any decent 1979 new wave compilation. think of the most earworm friendly devo and wire track out there, add lashings of catchy radio friendly hooks and you're almost there with this superb 2 and half minutes.

and finally, there's chuck. who obviously have a lot of alternative usa rock from the early 90's in their collections, and probably love anything produced by steve albini. in yer face chants and noise to a raw groove of bass and guitars make the intentions as obvious as a government anti-smoking campaign.

this is a fantastic addition to the series.

long live wrath.
