the scaramanga six - we rode the storm
my favourite purveyors of evil pop return to the masses psyche with this sure shot to the top with the first track to be lifted from the bands forthcoming 'cabin fever' album (of course i'm ignoring the split 7" release which had 'poison pen' on it).
ok, in truth it wont get to the top of the charts, but it bloody well should do, urgent guitar lines, sweeping sci-synths, hammond organ madness, and a chorus instigating riotous action makes this, by far, the best single this month.
fact.
oh, and watch the video included on the cd for the full gangstas from hell visuals..
for added bonus features there are more surprises in store.
'pincers' is an incendiary blast with the bands trademark sharp melodies, fully fledged insistent vocals, and the mad prog rock style breakdown at 2 minutes with spooky Theremin noises and piano is delicious, before all hell is let loose once more. leaving the listener breathless and gagging for more ? next up there is the big band noise of 'directors cut' with full horns added to the musical palette, showing that the band have a lot more up their well tailored suits than most other garage rock-n-roll bands that peer out of the weeklies/monthlies on a regular basis. the addition of the old track 'the story of the six' makes me want to dig out my old king kurt cassettes, the opening honking sax breaks, the psychobilly thumptastic singalong groove of it all make for huge fun.
if you don't crack a smile when this EP hits the speakers, then go see the undertaker. he'll look after you.
yup, you guessed it - i seriously love this band.
