stuffy/the fuses - where's the captain
best track off the bands album gets lifted for general mass consumption, given a muscular kick up the arse and told to go out in the world and spread the love. yes its a hard riffing pixies rip off (despite the press release denial of the pixies similarity - but hey we all have an opinion!), but if frank black and gang can reform and get folks all hot an bothered by the their howlings why can't a new young band regurgitate the groove further in an act of complete homage and love. word is that the stuffy/the fuses are to record with steve albini, lets just hope he doesn't strip stuffy of all their melodic intentions and loose what appeals to me. the extra tracks provided include 'austin city limits' a mad instrumental affair thats could install serious fear of fairgrounds in all those that hear it, madness styled hammond organ compete against old school indie noise for 3 minutes and i aint sure who wins.
finally there is the xtc/jam-tastic 'the papkis' that is frighteningly great, but could invoke to many emotions from the blur-period britpop to get a fair hearing. it's chirpy, funky, vibrant and downright brilliant with its hammond organ opening, clipped guitar chords and chunky bassline.
and this is hidden away on a b-side !? barking mad. guess thats just about sums the band up.
