factotum - progress

4 track ep, real instrumentation is used to maximum effect, creating a post rock ambience which never drifts too far into the world of self indulgence.

always keeping the mind of the listener interested as opposed to noodling on for hours.

opening track 'progress' has a tight warm bassline with various space echo effects bounced around the bassbins wrapping the melody line in a loving embrace. perfect for any travel program when showing idylic setting of sunset. tis that kinda vibe.

track 2 has some fractured voices like they've been stolen from a shortwave radio program and have been glued onto a studio jam, it grooves and has several ideas all going on at the same time, but once again the bassline seems to hold the whole thing together.

track 3 'more progress' revists the same melody motif as 'progress' so is naturally a smile inducing few minutes, leaving track 4 to come on as a long lost krautrock cousin, a simple but insistent drumbeat (lifted from 'i am the resurrection' by stone roses), melded with a rinkydink synth line makes this a perfect "driving in your car track" .. kraftwek meets stone roses anyone ?
