tina britt - blue all the way
if you have had a dig around this site, you may have realised that i love my 60's soul divas. i am anything but an expert in this area, but i knows what i love and this new reissue is definitiely one that i am going to love for a very long time despite having never heard of tina britt prior to this dropping through my letterbox. originally released in 1968 on the label of quality, minit. featuring songs written by the kings and queens of the era, redding, booker t, billy holliday to name but a few.
so, of course the music is time stamped with rich orchestrations, horn sections, blues guitars, and the much loved hammond organ all topped off with tinas lovely vocals. while her style is that of neither a screamer, nor a whisperer, she has a relaxed style oozing a natural warmth. hear 'johnny i love you' for the ultimate example in how she approaches the microphone as a instrument of love, then there is the superb hard assed southern blues swing of 'hawg for you', which would make dr john give up the ghost, as tina makes you feel downright dirty. in a good and purely natural way. get it sorted.
as well as the complete album, $tateside have added 7 extra tracks to make it even harder to resist.
