ecstasy, passion and pain

the only album released by this so called disco super group. and prior to giving this a spin i had no idea as to what i was in for, though the time period cover shot kind of gives the game away. in short this is 70's soul-disco. prior to the genre getting all diluted, the sound is absolutely awesome. massive warm bass lines, horns, strings the lot. but la creme de la creme are the vocals by the bands mainstay - barbara roy. full, up front, soulful and totally on the button in these rich surroundings.

ok, in the wrong mood, this can at times sound rather generic and dated, but i aint falling for that easy get out clause in the case of this album, alongside the uptempo groovers, album opener, 'ask me', that would get any glitterball spinning, are some downright deep down and funky cuts, as well as some fantastic end of the night nice and slow movers. for the funk that there is the superb non-original album cut, 'touch and go' here in a very rare 12" re-edit cut, which is rumoured to be one of the first 12" versions ever.

the back story behind this band is laid out in the full sleevenotes, its very complex and detailed, so settle down, get snuggled up, read the notes, feel the love and just melt into the sheer excellence on offer.
