baby washington - i've got a feeling

gospel rich mid-60's soul, recorded for sue records and veep gets another airing. several of these 28 tracks have never been set down on cd before. while baby washington may not have the grace and style like others of the era, her voice is full on and powerful when the groove requires, deep and romantically distraught in all the right places thus suiting the genre perfectly. 'there he is' being particularly wonderful with its build up crescendo with all the usual ingredients of strings, backing singers.

as the style of the day dictated, many of these tracks feature a slightly slimmer version of phil spectors' wall of sound approach to the backing tracks, but hey, it's great to hear castanets, orchestral strings, gospel backing, horn sections, kitchen sinks in these clean minimal days so who cares.

very classy stuff.
