september
minuteman - 5000 minutes of pain
- as mentioned elsewhere on this site i happen to
like minutemans style and sound, the new single is a solid
continuation. not as upbeat as previous releases and takes a few
more listens to get the subtleties. i fear the worst with a track
name like that though ! and the cover image is by far the worst
thing they have done. good job the music is so good
ooberman - beany bean
never really got
into the ooberman thing but this 3 tracker really is impressive,
opening track somes over as a lost 2 tone ska summer classic .
not what i expected at all and very enjoyable.the other tracks
'just sittin here' and 'car song' are more like what i expected -
experimental indie pop .. very listenable - not overly twee and
in some places quite heady stuff.
deadly avenger - we took pelham
a new name to me ..
but this is an excellent samples and beats release opening track
'we took pelham' gives the game away and advises that its a huge
lift from the soundtrack to classic 70's film 'taking of palham
123' a personal favourite of mine...the music itself comes over
as a direct relation to clubbed to death by rob d on mowax - huge
orchestral sounds with a solid breakbeat. then there are 2 other
tracks which vere away from this .. even touching into
electroclash styles .. according to the credits these are remixed
by future sound of london .. but dont let that fact scare you
off. highly recommended.
sixty mile smile
- far behind ep
with a name nicked
from an old 3 colours red track - i think we know where we are
going here. 4 tracks .. all killer no filler. passionate fullon
indie guitar power punk pop.
the fantastic super foofs - bilo boss
a band name
asking/demanding to be shortened to 'the foofs' (as per the
sultans of ping fc eventually found out to their detriment!) .
there is only one word to describe how this band sound -
compulsion.
having said that i should also add the words 'damn fine' to that
one word.
