janes addiction - true nature

opening track from the bands recent lp heralding their return to the fore of alt.rock noise. a superb blast of melody and noisy intent. all summed up in the opening 5 seconds - 'here we go' indeed. to go with the single the band are returning to these shores for a proper tour, details can be found in the usual places. i wish i wish i wish.

happylife - breathe for me

muse cross mutated with placebo. big guitars. big chorus. pleasant and enjoyable in a well refined indie rock manner, towards the end there are extra sonic extras that show the band have been listening to cooper temple clause and their spacerock tendancies. second track 'stand up', doesn't hold the listener in quite the same way, its a far mellower affair and would please fans of feeder.

so crossing several indie rock self created genre definitions happylife are obviously adding their weight to the surge of classic indie rock sounds.

franz ferdinand - dart of pleasure

uk strokes ? P*ss off. this is far more interesting. the vocals are far better and the bassline of the lead track is like an old new wave classic. the jerky staccato stop/start keeps the flow interesting. excellently catchy, the chord shift and vocalchant at 2.5 mins just makes this a girls and boys for the nu erea. is this the start of something good ? time will tell. just hope the 'uk strokes' tag doesn't detract too many people. second track 'van tango' is like an old cure b-side from the lovecats era .. not a fave of mine but the track is great fun, as is the adam and the ants homage 'shopping for blood'. an excellent 3 tracker, hope the hype doesn't kill their talent.
