meloboy - hot love
massive full on camped up electro-disco version of marc bolan's classic, with the formats featuring various forms for different moods. for the masses there is the lovely radio friendly original with synthetic strings, vocoder'd up vocals, and a chopped up midi beat. which could become the cross over hit that novamute never expected. then for the dancefloor, there is the acid house excess of dj koze in edited and massive 12 minute blowout. yes, it's tacky and will make the purists shrivel up into balls of anger, but i cant help but enjoy it. for added extras there is a wassermann mix which removes a lot of the lightness in the sounds and straps a far more imposing clash of synths and techno noises. excellent stuff.
the black velvets - 3345
second track from the bands forthcoming album. while i dismissed their first single as a darkness type of revisitation of 80's crap rock, this single is a lot more vibrant and direct. loud and not messing about, the band make their world domination intentions very clear on this obvious crowd pleaser. 3 minutes of punked up glam rock with an easy to memorise chant/chorus for total live action wipe out. good stuff.
agent blue - childrens children
sorry, but this one aint doing much for me, it's loud and somewhat proud as the lead singer has elements of joe strummer, which by default carries a lot of passion in the delivery of the heartfelt lyrics, but something is just a little too 90's generic indie rock, though i suspect the band are a live treat.
