suede - obsessions
quality track from latest full length release from suede. very much using their well established sound this is a strong live favourite and could restore the bands damaged ego's if charts well.
jesse james - empty tank
top track from the bands lp, if this doesn't make you rush out and track down the lp then nothing will. horns, riffs and a pogo'ing beat - fantastic. extra tracks for the single, 'waste of time', 'wendy' are not quite as strong but display the bands abilities well and are thoroughly enjoyable.
the star spangles - which of the two of us is gonna burn this house down
hmm what a catchy easy title that is ! anyway .. the black and white photo on the cover says it all - suits, thin ties,attitude, new york. anyone mention the strokes yet ? was bound to happen i guess. still the music is fairly impressive new wave garage punk (what did you expect !).
though i fear the passion for this is beginning to wane this lot could ride the final wave of enthusiasm for this stuff as they do it well, very well. the vocals have a richer joe strummer type of growl as opposed to casablancas thin sound and the guitars are a lot meatier, and the songs grab this particular listener a lot more than other current new york entrants into this league.
