having sorted out the bands name i have still the same love of this trios sound. they have maintained the same kind of crunchy alt.rock like nirvana used to pump out, but the foofs have a lot better grasp of melody then nirvana wannabes inme ever could muster. the foofs have a sense of humour, they even have hidden messages on the cd covers, they have a great cartoony-y logo/website. in short the foofs are worthy of a lot more attention than they get currently, they rock. previous singles are still within easy reach for me to dig out when the mood strikes, and after 1 year that is a surefire sign that they must be doing something right. and this new 3 tracker will sit well alongside those. the cover sort of indicates that maybe the lead track has far more serious overtones, the music is trademark blast of noise, roughed up vocals that always feel as though they are going to break the voicebox of the lead singer, but, somehow this never happens. but second track 'she sweats when its cold' has the same dark twists of humour, a wonderful diary of viginity loss and the subsequent regrets. a wonderful track. final track 'god is grey' is a low key mellow affair. not great, but shows an different side to the bands sonic arsenal. go on .. do yourself a favour and track down this band. before the nme get hold of them and hype them beyond all recognition.
lady leather machine - i want something
firey 3 tracker. ignoring the overly corney name, this lot take the recent uptempo scuzzbass driven riff monsters of primal scream (swasticka eyes, sick city) as the bands basis, adding fuzztone effects set to max this is a serious new addition to the genre. comprising of ben adams and his cosmo friendly cohorts, which includes an italian model 'luca c' who needed to be shown where to put his fingers on the instrument (bass). this band know where they are going. the songs are sharp, focused, a damn fine slice of seedy teutonic rock and roll.
produced by legend that is pat collier (do a google and learn the mans history, he's been involved in so many excellent records you should have), so you can rest assured this lot have a gameplan for domination. as indicated by the self titled track, powerbassline and serious swagger, amidst the signature fuzz.
released on lemonade hanshake records and packaged in a easily spotted garish pink cover so you shouldn't miss this.
the ga ga's - breaking america
solid radio friendly modern rock music. fans of early feeder should love the three tracks on offer. i believe they are supporting madam osborne on her forthcoming tour, no doubt her fans will love the spiky melodic punk pop on offer. the fact that the band credit the protools engineer indicates the attention to sonic detail. not bad.
boot 50 - popstars
according to the pr there is some tragic history involved with the band. so the fact that they have managed to get this 3 tracker out is a fine testament to the bands determination. this is essentially a revisit to the sounds of new wave of new wave heros these animal men. tight guitar pop punk set up against xtc style melodies. a fine start. lets hope it gets them noticed and an audience that they deserve.
