damn arms - patterns ep

while the rest of the world tries to get to the bottom of the akira the don/interscope story, the record label involved, something in construction, persists in releasing records that also deserve some attention.
of the current chunk i have to say that this 9 track mini-lp/ep is the one that will be getting regular spins from yours truly.
having spent the last 7 days in electro pop goth doom ridden intensity (it's a mood thing), i decided this morning that i needed to shift the funk and get back into gear. subsequently, the eye catching purpleness of the cover grabbed my jaded peripheral vision, but that proved to be nothing in comparison to the sound contained within the silver encrusted digital format.
the well connected band are, in a lazy nutshell, how franz ferdinand would have sounded on their second album if they had chewed shattered glass, and scoffed nothing but science fiction hormonally enriched red meat 6 months prior to stepping inside the studio.
the electrofied post funk-punk is abrasive, in-yer-face, and despite being at the tail end of the demand for all things gang of four connected, absolutely fantastic.
the australian band, sydney for all you fact fans, love to fuzz their upfront basslines, apply liberal quantities of unsettling discordant shouty vocals over the top of the mess, but thankfully, it all seems to gel quite brilliantly.
in this cheap-n-cheerful package (word reaches me that this release will be available in the real world for a mere pocket money friendly fiver) you will find the limited debut 7" tracks, please pass me my anti-robotics, i sink, therefore i swan, alongside new tracks and a few indie disco suitable remixes, with the jitset remix of i sink .. even featuring dev from test icicles.
to drop into mtv sanctioned buzz word territory for a moment, the new stuff rocks hard. no mush, no excess.
game over.
