the unisex - white days
the Scandinavians sure know how to take a generic form and extrapolate subtly. this time its classic indie that gets the nordic stamp (afterall we have had their garage stompers, the hives, various electronica bobbins, and downright perfect pop princesses etc etc). this is not their debut album however - that is being crafted as we speak in a studio in gothenburg, instead its' a collection of various tracks off eps and singles and an unreleased gem here and there. which kind of answers why this doesn't flow too well. i will admit that in places perfection is very close as they dig into the celestial melodies, clean and crisp guitars and easy on the ear production proving that coldplays appeal is totally universal. in several places old school indie passions rise, whether it's a bop along type of rhythm in the form of the andreas johnson styled 'take me higher' where the lead vocal has the same high levels of implied drama that andreas achieved on his one hit, or then there is the organ heavy doors-like 'break the silence'.
obviously as this is a collection, there is a spread in the actual production, and even a live track thrown into the mix making it a disjointed listen, but i cannot deny that the band have something special going on from time to time.
