the blueskins - word of mouth

this one came out of nowhere. a four piece rock-n-roll group from the outer limits of leeds. who know how to really rock and roll. as has been written about in just about every other place this gang create a sound that revisits good old fashioned blues infused rock music like led zeppelin used to dominate the world with in the 70's, and from this album i wonder if this band have the qualities to propel them onto the same levels of fame. the vocals are powerful and very impressive, something that's normally the weak point with this type of stuff.

quite simply, the guys have gone into the studio, plugged in and just gone for it. raw, brash, direct. and the results are a whole lotta fun.

starting off with the lyrically cliched 'bad day' with its catchy chorus and power driven beat things hardly let up for the next 11 tracks.

yes, there are lots of references to 'my baby', demons and the like. but when the songs are as damn catchy and genuine you just go with the flow, whether you want ot or not. sometimes there are elements of rockabilly, skiffle, slide guitars are  thrown into the mix to add a subtle  layer of variety (eg. 'change my mind'), but on the whole this is just rip roaring stuff that will make any sunny afternoon session at this seasons forthcoming festival season a complete blast.
