soulwax - much against everyones advise
a belgian band. a very very interesting band, obviously soulwax are dedicated music fans. the whole release is packagesd like a bunch of old 7" singles with real care and attention to detail. beautiful. the actual music is a continuation of this attention to detail. coming over like a very very polished modern rock/pop band they are actually quite a challenge. there is a lot of sonic detail in the instrumentation (the protools engineer gets a credit - guess this gives away a lot !) the songs are all of a very high quality - basically a 'gay dad' band that you needn't be embarrassed about liking .. bass driven rock comes into touch with gorgeous string driven epics - strings provided by jason falkner .. again showing the bands understanding of the qualities of classic powerpop music.
and the whole thing is the perfect length of old fashioned vinyl - 39 mins like 'proper' records used to be !
