Richard Swift - Dressed Up for the Letdown
Even with slow tempo-ed beginning of Dressed Up For The Letdown, Richard
Swift has made a lovely, feel good album that just puts a smile on your
face. With his simple melodies and percussion, mixed with gentle piano and
an absolutely gorgeous bit of brass, which makes the album; this solo effort
is pretty magical.
You can tell it ‘s from the heart. It’s about love, life as a musician, his
family.
The self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer has crafted his latest
album with catchy songs. They’re not always happy, but they are uplifting,
from the jaunty Most of What I Know to the sweet Building in America, with
its ‘Jesus Christ, You’re a Lovely Thing’ lyric. It’s the simple sayings
that mean so much.
The album also tells a serious tale about Swift’s own journey in music.
Artists & Repertoire shows how he refused to sell out, putting it as ‘Got a
wife and kid and a gun to my head’. I just hope he has more success with
this little beauty.
