the posies - dear 23

apparently the producer john leckie made this is his spare time while stone roses were trying to figure out which drum sound they wanted for their much-delayed second album ! well thanks stone roses. this is excellent acoustic guitar based pop. no forced production here, just great songs. like an updated version of simon&garfunkel in parts, but without the tweeness of the 60's counterpart. the songs are instantly listenable and catchy and brighten up a dull autumn day. highly recommended for all fans of good songs and guitars. i had the pleasure of seeing them one cloudy sunday morning at the reading festival a few years ago, unfortunately i hadn't heard any of their stuff and paid little interest - but they seemed more grunge-esque than this disc - i guess they changed their style with the second disc (amazing disgrace), which i've yet to get - wish i'd listened more closely now as they are heralded as a classic 'lost' band - although i believe that they have reformed and are touring/releasing more acoustic based stuff. top stuff.
