little hell - demonic advisory centre
this is a total
blast.
to get the best from this upon your first exposure skip past the
abrasive first track and head straight for the main course.
second track 'virus with shoes' is a superb insistent track that
grabs the listener by the jugular, now the lp doesn't let go for
the next 30 odd minutes, the band are home and dry.
coming over like a lost underground usa guitar band mixing
together the visceral thrills of pixies and adding steve
albini/gil norton noise element - this is not an easy guitar
album to get into - but once you do its addictive.
if you want easy - get stereophonics .. if you want an adrenaline
rush get this.
so the noise side is right up there with the best - as for the
the rest ?. well they print the lyrics to show their other side.
the words are very entertaining, these guys aren't bothered about
lost or found love, these songs are full of anger and hatred and
wrapped up in wonderful sarcasm. has been a while since a band
made me laugh out loud while being knocked sideways by the
guitars on fuzz and stun (production by harvey birrel - a man who
knows his way round a mixing desk - therapy for example).
i could list the tracks which should be destined for any self
respecting college rock radio station . but i just know that
they'll be scared away by the demonic (pun intended) intent.
dig into the bands website and a little more is revealed, the singer (steve ludwin) is a mate of top guitar pop band ash and has even donated a track to them, when that is noticed, it becomes apparent that this is almost like a dark evil twin of ashs 'nu clear sounds', where ash wrap up their love vignettes with guitars this lot show the slimy underbelly of love, music industry (to quote 'music masochists' - "i hate this business, so full of sharks"), with both bands sharing a love for highly enjoyable songs.
along with the
queens of the stoneage this is definitely one of my favourite
releases of the year so far.
