everclear - slow motion daydreamer
this lot have completely passed me by over the years.
this is, to place it in its easily defined pigeon hole - "finely honed sunshine friendly modern fm radio rock music".
with a strong catchy melodic touch many of these songs come from the same style as the red hot chilli peppers, foo fighters and feeder have recently discovered, and these bands have also found that this style sells very well. i can see this album appealing to exactly the same audience, and more ..
some songs rock a lot - opener 'how to win friends and influence people' being an obvious starting point, the blood rushes and the chorus kicks in into which the listener is quickly hurled into the excellent powerpoppunk of 'blackjack', unfortunately though these opening tracks are a bit misleading as the album quickly descends into a mid-tempo groove and stays there for much of the rest of the album, many of which are more mellow, with the necessary strings giving that granny friendly sound.
even so, this is very enjoyable.
