econoline - music is stupid
while i dont agree at all with the title - i do like this.
its not been an instant hit though it has to be said though. while guitars at the moment means several predefined genres this sounds like a throwback to a style which is not very common at the moment, this comes over as a production from the legendary fort apache studios that were very in vogue in the early 90's, while not creating a new sound the studio was very dominant with a certain style of us college indie punk rock and econoline have definitely heard several of the releases (especially cold water flat). the guitars strum and fuzz and make a well constructed racket and the basslines are up in the mix in fact a lot more in the mix than the vocals.
the reason for the problems with this is that in the middle of the lp there is a track which is truly difficult to get through (track 6 - ounces and ounces of solid goodness .. oh the irony !) the problem is the painfully atonal vocals making the track uncomfortable, subsequently i rarely made it through the rest of the disc. but when i discovered the fast forward button i found that the rest does indeed rate very highly.
while this wont set the tills at hmv on fire anyone wanting to hear an alternative to sum41 or coldplay for noisy alt guitars then you could do worse than digging this out.
