boo radleys - wake up! c'mon kids, kingsize
poor boo radleys,
forever associated with one freak pop crossover.
subsequently causing internal haemorrhaging for the band. i have
to say that apart from the over exposure of said track 'wake up!'
the rest of the lp is superb, luckily there is a quality in the
songs, style that i dont think anyone expected. after the pop
blast they went to the wall and released a very strange lp, 'cmon
kids' was to boo's as kid a was to radiohead .. but there was one
difference, the songs on c'mon kids weren't string enough and the
kids weren't ready for overblown guitars, distorted bass,
changing rhythms mid-song . this was alt-guitar prog rock, a
strange inaccessible release, but given time does indeed reveal
several gems, just that they are hidden very deep.
once the band were rejected by the public they then reformed
their talents and released their stunning swansong, kingsize,
each track flows beautifully, there is sublime orchestration and
excellent melodies. just a shame the band had stretched the
audiences patience as this again was a lost classic, there are
just too many standout tracks to mention, just dig this out of
the cheap bins and revive your soul.
