age of chance - one thousand years of trouble, mecca
two albums. one major effect on my life.
crush collision concept was far too ahead of its time to be fully appreciated. buy 'one thousand years of trouble' and hear a raw powerful dance/rock cross-over before limp biscuit (sic) were in nappies.followup 'mecca' was a good pop album, very different from first lp, smooth with much more songs rather than chanting.
extra stuff :
ok theres recently been interest in this lost band .. so more details :
1st lp .. a serious opener taking the public enemy blueprint of more samples than you can shake a stick at. guitar noise and vocal raps opens the lp and it never lets up, including samples from all over the shop (queen, apocolypse now) classic industrial surf riff on track 3 .. superb live .. with 3d sound for the explosions, at hometown gig at leeds poly in 87 anyway - the explosions definitely sounded to come from the back of the hall creating a superb effect. to this day that gig was a lifetime highlight ..

also my first recollection of seeing a live rock band using a dj on stage .. hmm now i wonder will that idea ever take off - i must ask fred durst about that ...
lp ends with the most stripped down track instrumentally but somehow there is an intent in steven e's voice which makes the track compelling and leaves the listener desperate for more of the same - the 35 mins of the lp is just to painful ..
the lp still sounds vibrant and relevant
2nd lp - ok not in the same league but has actually aged well, there are some quality pop/rock tracks, 4 more years was obviously intended as a continuation of the crush collision manifesto - the lyrics are in the same style and the music is almost as extreme, but then the noise quota is reduced, almost hit higher than heaven is a great pop song and would make perfect fodder for seal to cover and get the band really rich ! but for me the highlight is 'whats happening' with a great beat and superb cutup guitar lick .. this lp is a classic case of 'so near ... ' but it was obvious the band had lost their way ...
