gary clail : end of the century party, emotional hooligan, dreamstealers, keep the faith

gary clail releases are almost like on-u compilations .. the music backing tracks are from all over the on-u catalogue, a lot of tracks have akabu on backing vocals, andy fairley appears, bim sherman, the whole caboodle .. subsequently i love all these discs as the styles are very much a showcase for on-u. the best though has to be 'end of the century' this was released in 89 when on-u was at its height of its powers, the sound is insistent and grabs the listener, with one or two tracks becoming very controversial eg. beef - a classic. 'emotional hooligan' actually was the big hit lp, 'featuring human nature', evenso this is a strong release. 'dreamstealers' was a little too bland in the production, but there are a couple of standout tracks, especially 'these things', and 'keep the faith' wasn't given any press in uk (sony-france release) which was a shame as this was his strongest release since 'end of the century', again featuring an array of the on-u gang. admittedly gary's lyrics are like backing tracks - constantly being recycled and spouting the same phrases ten years after originally doing so wears a bit thin .. but i like the mans style. listen to the track 'hard man' and just feel the bass ..
