pest - pat pong
on the recent ninjatune dvd there is a strange pest video involving various people dressing up as a chicken or something like that, i was not overly impressed, but even so there was something in the groove.
same applies with the new pest track. very up tempo dance groove, almost a disco edge. old school 70's electric pianos and naughty cut up vocals make this feel like something that mr scruff would easily add to his play list. all very clean and pleasant, but doesn't really grab me. the solid groove remix adds more bounce to the ounce, and ups the dance factor moves, whereas the diesler remix adds lots more frantic rhythmic elements to the tracks opening, before cutting it all back to just the mellow saxophone section, and is therefore, the best version on offer.
the ep is finished off with a very disjointed mess of samples and noises, 'chimps', and could indeed be the fact that they have let a monkey loose all over the samplers buttons and faders - all clicky stop-start samples and such like make for a twisted 5 and half minutes. not a ninjatune classic - an acquired taste that's for sure, but one that i find myself revisiting for some bizarre reason. which means by the end of the year i'll realise that is one of the years best singles.
only time will tell.
