this is a compilation that was given to the lucky devils who took part in a recent celebration of all things moshi moshi which was hosted at the london ica, and featured junkboy, j-x and several bods from the excellent melodic label.
an 8 track affair summising the sheer variety and quality of my current favourite label.
i make no apologies for my now obvious lack of bias.
tracklisting :
1. sukpatch - hey jolie (moshi01) - fractured beats and loops, distorted vocals from a far away land, induce a gorgeous simple melody, and is fleshed out to pine chilling effect when the phased guitars fill the stereo image. what a label opener ..
2. j xaverre - saturday (moshi05) - had not heard this but to me this is superior to the recent skatedater ep tracks. damn those with talent. i feel a dose of jealousy coming on ..
3. matt harding - tonight (moshicd02) - sublime highlight lifted from matts full lengther, one of the few tracks on the lp which features a vocal line.
4. ingo star cruiser - seafood (moshicd01) killer track from one of my faves for 2002. full review is elsewhere, kinda like the music.
5. junkboy - coming down (moshicd03) - top drawer chill down track that insists you dig out the full lengther and experience the total effect.
6. blue foundation - hollywood (moshi04) - new track to me, very trip hop sounding but with a twist of lemon to add a dash of originality.
7. katherine williams v pedro - part 2 (moshi7) - forthcoming track from highly anticipated collab between the voice and melodics wunderkid pedro, this track features little of the voice and relies heavily on pedros laptop induced rhythms and clicks and bleeps.
8. zan lyons - suicide (moshi02) - scary beats, dark atmosphere pervades this and beats the listener into a strange willing state of submission, this is where it all started for me in 99 when this track was featured on a nme freebie cd.
