fort lauderdale - pretty monster

the long awaited second album. 14 tracks that act a complete whole against all odds considering the vast range of styles that toby jenkins and steven webster dip their collective toes into.

where the singles have had excellent lead tracks, the b-sides have been mad, disposable off the wall noodlings, so how will the guys hold it together over the course of the whole lp ?

well they do. brilliantly.

mixing a plethora of styles from gorgeous 60's psyche pop through to haunting electro epics with each play revealing the sheer depth of attention to sonic detail. i have to say that several times the ghost of marc bolans mellow vibes have been revived to glorious effect, with the full instrumetation backing crying out for a full on tony 'spiders from mars' visconti treatment. mixing mellotrons, honking sax's, strings, and guitar solos from outer space this is truly a one off album. in fact in parts the glam sound has been so well taken that its very tempting to dig out the glitter embossed high platform boots. there is no way this sounds like a lo-fi recording that the band have always been associated with .. this is supreme full techno-colour pop music for the nu-era.

pretty fantastic. one for my end of year list without a doubt.
