fort lauderdale - rock 'n' roll

following in the tradition of jesus and mary chain, brmc, reno, and countless others the new single from fort lauderdale has advised their fans of exactly what this new record sounds like by using the genre as the title of the lead track.

rock 'n' roll is 3 minutes of dirty/grimy guitars, bass and drums. the groove, vocal style and even the lyrics are also very similar to j&mc classic 'i hate rock and roll'. even down to the fact that the lyrics advise that rock and roll is killing them, to a backing of a dark r-n-b riff against a simplistic one note bassline. familiarity sets in quickly.

as i have not heard fort lauderdales previous releases i cannot tell wether this is a pisstake, homage or the real mckoy, and after a couple of listens i have decided i dont care as its great fun.

the reason for the uncertainty is due to the other tracks on this release 'quasimodo', 'psalm' are completely different. one being a short musical interlude type of track with its slow and lo vibe sounding like a soundtrack to a classic david lynch scene of evil intent, while the other is a piano riff looped and altered sparingly over its course a la philip glass.

hopefully the new lp, 'pretty monster', due out later this year, will be as varied and interesting.
