jimmy behan - days are what we live in
tis 2005 and this album is lovingly crafted natural ambient music combining real instrumentation and computer/studio soundscapes to counteract the intensity of the modern world. melodic electronica/ambient is a genre i rarely listen to in these fast-n-furious times, 1994 was my ambient year when i literally spent 12 months listening to music without any beats or vocals. strange times. so when these pleasant laid back sounds flow through the air then you cannot help but be slowed down and emotionally smoothed out. despite my original urge to jump up and swap the disc for the latest turntablist mixtape i became entranced by the sheer beauty on offer. the style varies from orbital arpergios, to william orbit bubbly synthetics via some Balearic styled sunrise soundtracks (opening 'granby row' being a perfect example) and maintains a real sense of melody and gorgeousness throughout. proving that jimmy behan can add more to the sonic palette one track feature vocals from nina hynes to create the album highlight 'deeper then heaven'.
good stuff.
