dance to the radio - what we all want
feels weird. me and the nme are in sync. they are currently throwing a lot of love towards this most excellent of labels, and for once i wholeheartedly agree. independent to the extreme with little in the way of any signs of selling out, they have yet again proved that leeds is far more rich and diverse as a cultural hotbed for gangs with guitars and noise. check the tracklisting below, tis a glorious overview of why 2006 is soo much more than just the kaiser chiefs. of course there is a fair bit of lo-fi madness that could be a lot more fun to listen to if the band had a better recording budget. but there is such a range of excellence on offer that i cant even begin to go into a track by track run down.
reasons to purchase : the fuzzed up punk-glam of we start fires is fantastic, the arctic monkeys styled hook heavy riffs of the pigeon detectives, the abstract pop of napoleon iiird, the solid indie rock of kubichek!, akira the don styled beats and street level raps by new name yes boss, the drawn out epic guitars of this et al, gorgeous indie pop by samsa and the lodger, the very special spine tingling choral extras by iliketrains (this has to be heard!),
etc etc.
get your pocket money out, and get this snapshot of all that is good within the independent sector of the music industry.
