trojan sound system - volume 1
i'll let you into a secret. want to know why reviews in mojo, q et al for reggae reissues are always given top ratings ? well, it's because having had to listen to hours of hard hitting indie rock, or cold machine made electro-techno or whatever, when you dig into the pile the golden ticket for aural pleasure to relief the tension on the eardrum is always a nice and easy reggae compilation, the relaxed rhythmic flow, the natural musical warmth always makes for a perfect antidote to the protooled compressed modern world. so, when i happened to be lucky enough to receive this fine mixtape i felt rather chuffed. with the track selection combining a mix of well known classics, a few unknowns to me, and some excellent rejigged dancehall versions. like a hiphop mixtape, the tracks are joined together via sound system dj banter and explosive sound effects making the 66 minutes fly by in a rush of perfectly sweet lovers rock, dubbed up moods, Rastafarian declarations and of course a lot of weed.
gorgeous, and the best thing ?
