telefon tel aviv - remixes compiled
this is rather nice, and unexpected.
a remix collection that has a flow and feel like a
proper album.
as the title implies, this hefty records release
comprises of 12 remixes that cover the period of time that chicago based duo, joshua
eustis and charlie cooper have been together as telefon
tel aviv.
despite the source material coming from several
disparate genres of music out there, industrial, jazz, and hip hop
to name but a few, these remixes are never short of anything but special.
the set starts off with the lads first foray into
the world of mixing, when back in 2000 they had some time in nine inch
nails trent reznors studios, to touch up even deeper into
a sublime and delicate piece of electronica, previously unreleased, this track
is obviously a collaboration that they are still obviously proud of, as it
sort of defines the following 50 or so minutes.
other recognisable names that have been graced
with a makeover, include, bebel gilberto, ninja tunes ammoncontact,
apparat, and a personal favourite the remix of the green
green grass by american analog set with its
widescreen electronic sheen that could prove that similar sonic providers, air,
have a limited lifespan.
so for a slice of gentle, relaxing quirky
electronic music, that sometimes draws on the world of orchetsras (the
breathtaking beauty that is remix of oliver nelsons stolen
moments surely has to be taken up by hollywood to soundtrack a big
dramatic moment), glitchy laptops, sugar coated melodies, or minimal synthetic
pulsations, this is a truly wonderful album to loose yourself in.
