sway - this is my promo (vol 1&2)
surely you all know about sway now. mentor behind these self released mixtapes storm the mobos and take down the major label monsters in fine uk hip hop action. subsequently the man has re-released his 2 volumes and got some nice distribution sorted making these appear in normal record shops. this action, alongside a lot of support from hip hop connection means that things are going well for he who is known as sway.
so, all the hyperbole and media attention aside, is the material worthy ? oh yes. straight up head bangers, sit next to more current grimey styled production, as well as few hijacked beats here and there. while the tracks are interspersed with snippets from interviews, live battles, demos etc making for a wonderful insight into the world of the underground hiphop artist. but why is it that sway seems to be succeeding where so many others have fallen down ? well, as well as the cutting edge uk style production, it's sway's miles of smiles personality that simply oozes out of the records. he has genuine way with words that will make you smile, and in some cases laugh out loud, but the man aint no clown rapper. nah, this is seriously enjoyable underground action that has eye sights on mass acceptance, the verbal flow is spot on, clear and rides the beats in a fine fashion. highlights are spread across these 2 cds, with nods towards many of the genre headhonchos, sway has obviously made a lot of friends and revels in his cheeky geezer status.
oh yes. oh yes. at last uk hip hop is in charge of its own direction, and, with sways album proper due out early 2006 things could become very interesting.
even if things do go belly up, then it doesn't matter at all as these 2 mixtapes are gonna still be hammered on my system.
genuinely excellent in so many ways.
