subtle - f.k.o (f*ck kelly osbourne)
this debut ep on lex features new sounds from the former clouddead doseone alongside producer jel. the combination of doseone's slight off kilter incomprehensible vocals and jel's excellently surreal sonics makes for one of the most interesting singles in recent times. the ep has a variety of mixes, as well as the radio friendly melodious original there is the minimal bleeps, piano chords and machine clicks 'b fleischman' version reducing the instrumentation to fit in with the dual layered vocals. whereas the console remix is a stunning orbital type of uptempo synth driven perfection. the slight addition of delicately cutup vocal samples become part of the midi-enhanced beat like jean michelle jarre used to preach and teach about during his prime zoolook period making for an absolutely stunning 6 minutes. then to finish off, there is a lovey basic instrumental version revealing the clean beats, accordions, electro-enhanced sounds. having spun this many many times though, i still have yet to figure out what the offspring of ozzy has done to deserve such singular treatment.
even so, the album 'a new white' is out later in october.
i can hardly wait.
