the soulsavers soundsystem presents fear and loathing on the wheels of steel vol 1-3
4 cds (vol 3 is 2 cd set) of wonderful eclectic music, following in the same tradition as dj shadows brainfeeze projects and david holmes essential mixes, with the main emphasis on lost northern soul nuggets and uptempo cover verions of well known classics, mixed in with 60's garage rock .. moving away from the bands recorded output, (all i've heard is the one track on the memphis idustries compilation), of smooth mellow downtempo cinematic grooves, instead these mixes are intended to make you feel fine and downright funky. unfortuantely these limited releases are only available via certain outlets as promotional releases to spread the vibe on the band so dont go checking the racks at your local corporate emporium, but by all means i would recommend you track these down if you want to have a decent party soundtrack.
i am not going to give away any of the tracklist as that would spoil the surprise. all i can say is that these cds make you want to have a party just so that more people get the same pleasure out of these mixes. wonderfully put together with great attention to the flow and with some excellent little extras making these a definite contender for mix of the year.
i understand that the guys have a lp proper out soon in october.
should be very interesting. hopefully i will have details soon .. in the meantime i'm going to be spinning these on a very regular basis.
