super furry animals - phantom phorce
a remix album of last years well received super furry animals album. normally remix albums are a collection of tracks thrown through the trance/bigbeat machine for the dancefloor and such collections are a disparate set of tracks with little flow. as sfa have decided to release this album on their own placid casual label they have obviously decided to avoid the usual cliches as all the remixes (bar one or 2) have maintained the melody strengths and qualities of the originals .. what is different though is the musical backing. instead of the usual traditional sfa backing the tracks are now mainly ambient/electronica infused, with current leftfield names such as killa kella, wauvenfold, fout tet, minotaur shock (yummy dub effects a personal fave), boom bip, and even ex-boo radleys brave captain. for the keen eyed amongst you, you will notice that these names are familiar if you have bought the dvd version of the labum. thats cos these tracks are the same as the dvd extras. but this collection on one shiny disc makes it a lot easier to listen to as a whole on the discman at work.
you know that sfa's have pulled in a high quality bunch of mates who have serious love and respect for the original source material. its not a remix. its a reinterpretation. and its lovely stuff. despite being touched up by people who have little in connection with one another the 70 minutes still flows as a complete whole, with its weirdness and sunshine vibes meeting in a rare collision.
although the running commentary by the ever so funny so called executive producer is debatable.
