for this new mix on global underground there is a chunk of techno gubbins about some revolutionary computer software that has 're-energised' globetrotting sasha into a pogo'ing monster in his booth (called 'the maven' apparently!) , but that makes no difference to the final results to the listener when this is dropped into the ipod/cd player/tape deck (!!) - as basically this is still a dj set comprising of laidback techno, electro house, and various extras all mixed up to make a seamless 60 minutes of smoothness. while i normally prefer the excessive madness of the glimmer twins style of phucked up mix this is not too bad. a lot of current hipster passion electro is offered up of course, and a few icy atmospheric vocals appear here and there adding a little humanity to the futuristic 4/4 beat driven ambience, there is even a well known cover version (playgroup having a stab at depeche modes classic 'behind the wheel') thrown in for good measure. the software becomes apparent during track 15, as sasha is tries to get up to speed with the whole twisted electronica groove, he tweaks/distorts/overlays all sorts of sounds to the normal groove, this deviation will possibly make the experience slightly disorientating for those used to a straight 4/4 beat - personally i think its a brave move, making the mix a lot more interesting and diverse than i expected. hopefully sasha will progress deeper into this style of sonic experimentation as this mix is a lot of fun.
