sandals - rite to silence
no idea how to describe this as it has all sorts of influences - funky soul ambient hip-hop dub rock. a crossover band with every member fighting to show off his own record collection. having said that though it never sounds like a mess. most tracks are wonderfully sublime with deep warm bass. some tracks are straight ahead song structures whereas other veer into post rock grooves. to these ears this a very refreshing listen and can see this disc being hailed as a lost classic in the next few (y)ears.
update 3/7/06: a little digging recently has revealed that there is supposedly another album in the can, but so far unreleased. if there is anyone out there with more detail, then i'd love to hear from you.
cracked ep
having enjoyed the above release for its complete originality i was lucky enough to spot a copy of the 'cracked ep', 8 tracks weighing in at 52 mins .. more deep bass driven grooves which span all genres, hip-hop based spacefunkrock, luke gordon is on the production duties on most of the tracks. i cant believe that this lot haven't been name checked by those in the know, but i do seem to recall thom yorke once giving them a nod in a rundown of recent listening once. top recommendation
