red snapper - redone

never heard red snapper before, i have always been put off by the live jazz that the band keep getting linked with in early review years ago.

this is a bunch of tracks remixed by individual folks with very different styles and sounds, unlike the recent themselves remix lp, or echodek (primal scream remix lp) which was all done by adrian sherwood and therefore was a complete album.

depending on your mood different tracks will pull different strings.

faves are several, broadway projects epic downtempo cinematic hiphop grooves, the wonderful old school hiphop scratchathon by depth charge, as well as blue states moody roy 'theme from carter' budd type of soundtrack. personal highlight is by melodics pedro, stands out like a very welcome sore thumb. the laptop loops and clicks and sounds are just fresh and different. not basic presets, not standard drum loops. all twisted and prickly. absolutely wonderful. why am i not surprised.

but there are several tracks that dont provide the same sonic thrills, but i am sure that these very same remixes will move many peoples spine and emotions. each to their own ..

overall a nice set of interesting beats and grooves with an overly mellow downtempo feel - except for the radioactive man which has a throbbing techno sequencer battling against the rest of the albums ambience, just head for the pedro track for the real fun.
