the little experiment of dj shadow and his partner in crime cut chemist came up with a few years ago as brainfreeze has now become available for all to see in all its live 45 rpm glory.
the dvd follows the dynamic duo around the world performing this feat of turntable skills in front of pumped up audiences, with various sections spliced together so that each gig gets a section of its own. the music is obviously excellent (you know the score – old soul classics, rock break beats and weird adverts mangled together), with the surprise revelation that dj shadow is a quiet studied person, while cut chemist is a showman making the visual aspect more interesting.
see them interact, watch them dig in the crates for new sounds, and marvel at the shady hotel deals involving ridiculously priced 7” rarities, but mainly just watch the scratch skills of two masters of the genre destroying their prized possessions.
