modular recordings present - leave it all behind
a double cd set, one mixed on unmixed of up to the date reworkings of indie-rocks latest and greatest, put together by those party monsters known as modular, but with a little help from v2. while many of you will have a lot of the tracks elsewhere, the sheer spread of 'rare to cd' tracks makes this compilation/mix an excellent set, as i suspect most of the choices will consist of dj only promo mixes, or tracks that have previously been only on vinyl. of course, there are many of the big names that the nme drool over week in and week out, such as bloc party, the rakes, tom vek, whitey (whose single provides the name of this collection and justly appears in mixed and unmixed varieties), and the effing killers. but, there are a few curveballs to make the party swing with a little more fizz, whether in the form of a ubiquitous erol alkan reedit (dfa 1979), a fellow scenester optimo remix of gloomy pop masters 'sons and daughters', down to the full on electro madness of soulwax's 'e-talking' in its glorious tiga version.
while i concur this may be a totally shallow exercise in major label giving the fresh new blood student market exactly what they want upon their entry to the class of 2005, i cannot deny that this chunk-o-grooves is a fine way to pretend that you are in touch with the current indie-rock-dance club scene, and even if its not pretending, the mix will make for a great soundtrack to anyone's saturday night. which is surely the whole point ?
