miss kittin - a bugged out mix

a 2 cd mix which is split into two sections, 'perfect night', and 'perfect day'. as you would expect the night time mix is for the dance floors and the daytime for the headaches that follow.

perfect night starts of brilliantly with some fine mood inducing mash up dirt by princess superstar before the electro heaviness is brought into the mix. what is apparent from this set is that despite being one of the main names that helped kick electro back into the consciousness of the masses (her genre defining 'electroclash' mix that came cover mounted on the much missed muzik magazine still gets rotated when in the mood @ ireallylovemusic hq) she has decided to prove that there is more in her record collection that one would expect. so while perfect night does indeed get the right vibe going, there is a chunk of fairly hard going minimal electro-house that can become tiresome when one track after another does little to alter the direction. luckily though, this is only a fraction on offer as towards the end of the disc we get a strange set of cheesy 90's piano heavy house music, (awesome 3's 'don't go'!), before heading into the final section which drops old school front 242 into the mix, thus making up for the lack of fun earlier.

such reservations though do not occur with disc 2, perfect day, as this is just a wonderfully diverse set of machine made music. so we get the synth heavy, wagon christ, the spooky bass noir of monolake, minimal baby ford bleep-tastic grooves, and pop music by jay haze and saint etienne! though the latter is remixed by two lone swordsmen, so even their contribution is a stripped down electro growler that permeates the darker corners of the daylight sun.

of course, the foundations across both discs is electronica in all of its subtleties, the daytime set is far more enjoyable and solid than the night disc in my opinion, but i guess that just proves that the dance floor is, unfortunately, no longer my domain.

all in all, a cracking mix for those that want to catch up on why all the cool people are listening to minimal electro in 2006.
