dr calculus - designer beatnik
a
few weeks ago i posted a few words relating to a strange long lost
forgotten 80s album made by
robbie williams’ latest best
mate,
stephen tintin duffy.
the excellent off the wall electro experiment that
was released under the name dr calculus that for a few months
back in 1986 completely dominated my listening pattern.
so imagine my surprise when a few days after my
post, i opened the latest issue of beatles loving mojo magazine to
see a small paragraph in their playlist section advising that this curio is
now to get a re-release !
a few investigative emails, and i get to the
bottom of the mystery.
yes, the album is getting reissued, but no you
won’t be able to walk into a record shop and physically pick this
album up.
you see its going to be a digital only release.
however, to sweeten the deal, the package comes
wrapped up with the various 12″, b-sides that were released alongside
the album, which to be honest, are not that different to the album versions
(this was the day when a 12″ remix involved a slightly extended drum
loop at the beginning and end of the record!), but still are worthy of love,
especially in their squeaky clean, scratch free, remastered versions.
so, seeing as very few out there know of this
personal favourite, here are the details :
