while the world went off and scoured the racks for trojan, studio one, and lee perry productions for their reggae fix, there was in actual fact a one man reggae machine based in uk. dennis bovell. to many he is the hidden talent in the 70's reggae scene, who also happened to get behind the mixing desk for many a punk band and adding an element of bass alongside being the man behind the desk for hero of the 70's, Linton Kwesi Johnson. therefore, tis only right that his back catalogue is brushed off, remastered, extra tracked, extensive sleevenotes, and given a justified time in the spotlight. after all, dennis is the producer of janet keys classic silly games, surely one of the best reggae pop records of all time.
having never been released on cd before, these albums provide a wonderful insight into just how varied dennis could be, from the ska rhythms, to roots, dub (his blackbeard releases were pure echoed dub releases), sound system, and dancehall via the more digital production styles of 'lovers rock' on audio active, these reissues are indeed a fine addition to any fan of the slow slung reggae groove.
