dave j - the super incredible mega ninja death-ray mix
having had a few words in the latest hip hop connection i decided to track this mix down.
i am well chuffed i did too.
featuring a whole chunk of old school hip hop funk and a few downtempo leftfield extras dave j provides a fine set of beats all sliced and diced in classic mixtape fashion. a quick scan of the featured tracks indicates the groove that dave j is all about : 3rd bass, pete rock and cl smooth (LOTS OF PETE ROCK IN FACT !) , mark ronson, peanut butter wolf, 45 king, dj format, ugly duckling - not a lot of heavy gangSTA JUNK GOING ON THANKFULLY.
where things differ SLIGHTLY is that amongst the usual UPTEMPO party moOds dave has dropped some interesting extras such AS fleetwood mac, hall and oates showing that anyone can be placed into a hip hop beat and made to move the spine, alongside a few subtle bootleg mashups well placed throughout the hour long set.
there are even a couple of daves own creations tagged onto the end showing that the man has talent that needs to be exposed to the beat heads.
all very cool - the love and attention that dave has put into this mix should definitely bring some work his way (email linked below),
all this despite the tagline on the inner sleeve :
'comin' from uranus to check my style'
hmmm .. that man is messing with my head .. and i love it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
