nobody's perfect - mixed by andrea parker
a cheapo compilation mix cd by mo'waxs old school techno hero andrea parker, combining several of the touchin' bass label first ten vinyl only releases into a seamless mix.
so for those that don't dig this is a perfect starter pack with the dark brooding electronic beats and weird bass boom noises featuring a whole host of unfamiliar names. despite my own personal lack of knowledge, other then i had heard previous parker/david morley collaborations, and the appearance of dj assault recalling the high profile, short lived affair between mo'wax and miami bass sound, i reckon this is one of the best techno mixes currently doing the rounds in normal record shops (as opposed to all the stuff on the wire).
21 tracks in all, with many being totally gorgeous, scary, and moody as hell. if this is what is played in clubs these days, i'm as glad as hell i don't venture beyond my sofa on a saturday night. this is not a negative slur at all, as on headphones the sonic sparseness, minimal melodic appearances, sub-sonic basslines somehow all work brilliantly for anyone who needs to concentrate when tapping away on a keyboard.
lapses in political correctness aside, the excellent 'freaky bitches' by the afore mentioned dj assault, and dj godfather, cannot alter the fact that this has single-handedly made me want to dig out all my old school warp releases from the early 90's. something i never thought would happen again
do yourself a favour and rediscover the glories of the detroit styled techno-noir grooves via this superb mix.
oh, and don't just take my word for it. mojo made this dance album of the month in jan'05.
