paul nice presents journey to the centre of the beats
an excellent new mix tape featuring a whole range of hip hop sounds with a funky dash of r-n-b, from the old school james brown loops of lord finesse (one of the many exclusives - see below), to state-of-the-hip-hop-art neptunes produced clipse's 'when the last time', via some very current messed up mashups involving grandmaster's classic 'the message' and an old reggae beat. In fact, there is a whole section dedicated to the sugarhill label, where the classics are mixed up with new stars of the rap game. fantastic, any fans of the recent steinski sugar hill mix will love this tighter than tight scratch fest.
the whole album has a flow that keeps the listener hooked throughout with its various moods of hard and tight head nodding beats through to the lighter soul infused party loops (debarge/clispe ) that appear later in the mix until we hit the underground hard hitters mobb deep and wu tang to get the blood rushin to finish it all off.
with many of the tracks featured being pauls' own fine turntable and production skills making this a fine showcase for a future hip hop production guru ..
